"Detroit City, we adore you. Detroit City, for you we sing!"

Detroit City FC’s Northern Guard is a community of fans unlike any other in Detroit. They are deeply passionate, regardless of the team’s record, and they are unflinchingly growth-oriented. They are an example of what passion can do; six years ago, neither this team nor its fan section existed. Now, Detroit City’s supporters, 7,000 strong, pack the stands of Keyworth Stadium to the brim every week, sell Adidas merchandise to their fans, and have several local sponsors. They’ve created a vibrant, familial, and intimidating supporter culture completely from scratch.

“I came here alone tonight, but it didn’t matter.” Ellen Mey, 30, of Detroit told me at a match against AFC Ann Arbor. “As soon as I got to these stands, I had a family.”
